WHO WE ARE

MISSION
Science Communicators Philippines (SciCommPH) is an organization composed of journalists, broadcasters, writers, science communication practitioners, and scientists, that aims to promote science and technology and their uses among Filipinos through programs, projects, and activities implemented in collaboration with public and private individuals/entities using various communication channels.

VISION
To organize Filipino journalists, broadcasters, writers, scientists, science communication practitioners, and the general public towards the popular and widespread adoption of STEM in the Philippines.

OFFICERS

Angelo B. Palmones
​Chair

A seasoned and multi-awarded broadcaster, legislator, science communication champion, the founding President of the Philippine Science Journalists Association and AGHAM Partylist Representative to the 15th Congress, and currently a News Anchor and Producer at DZRH-MBC and Radyo Natin FM. He is also the Producer and Program Anchor of Radyo Henyo on DZRH, a science radio program simulcast on Radyo Natin FM, as well as on various cable television channels and social media platforms.

Melvin G. Calimag, Esq.
President

A veteran IT and technology journalist and practicing lawyer, he is the founder and executive editor of Newsbytes.ph, one of the Philippines’ leading independent science and technology news portals.

Rogel Mari D. Sese, PhD
Vice President for Internal Affairs

A pioneer advocate of space science in the Philippines, he authored the country’s National Space Development Policy and served as the focal person for the Philippine Space Science Education Program of the DOST. Dr. Sese currently chairs the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Ateneo de Davao University. He is also a science vlogger and science communications advocate.

Timothy James M. Dimacali
Vice President for External Affairs

Former head of the Science Communications Team of the UP Diliman College of Science and a science journalism lecturer at the Ateneo de Manila University. Worked as Information Officer at the Science Education Institute of DOST, and founding editor of GMA News Online’s SciTech Section. He was a Fulbright scholar who studied Science Writing at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA.

Ma. Angelina B. Resurreccion
Secretary

A multi-awarded and accomplished science journalist and the long-time science editor of the Business Mirror. She also served as resource person and speaker in various science writing and other events of the DOST and the science community.

Ruby R. Cristobal, PhD
Treasurer

A science education and communication practitioner, science broadcaster, researcher, and S&T development program specialist. She served as the Production and Science Consultant of Sine’skwela, an educational television  program produced by ABS-CBN Foundation Inc., and co-host of Bago Yan , Ah! of DZMM/ABS-CBN. She is currently the Executive Producer and Program Anchor of Radyo Henyo of DZRH-MBC.

Jomar F. Rabajante, PhD
Auditor

Professor, Institute of the Mathematical Sciences and Physics, University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB) and currently the Dean of the UPLB Graduate School, and an affiliate faculty member of the Faculty of Education, UP Open University. He holds an appointment as Junior Associate at the Quantitative Life Sciences Group of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste Italy. He is a fellow of the UP Resilience Institute and a member of the UP COVID-19 Pandemic Response Team.

Mario V. Capanzana, PhD
Board Member

Before his retirement, he served as the Director of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute of DOST. He is a Chemical Engineer who has chosen to share his knowledge and skills in the field of food and nutrition as his contribution to the country’s development. He published scientific and technical papers in international and local journals, presented scientific papers in international and national scientific gatherings, and teaches  food engineering and food technology subjects in selected universities in the country.
